Yellow Dinos, or Diplodocus carnegii, are an original species on the site, having been released on June 19, 2007, alongside Storm Dragons and Red Dinos. Dinos are a special release of creatures as opposed to the traditional dragons found on the site; they do not possess genders and cannot breed. They also cannot be revived if killed.

Dinos come in 5 colors: Green, Red, Blue, Yellow and Purple. Purple Dinos are the only color not considered an original species of Dragon Cave, having been instead introduced on July 15, 2009.

Adult Dinos used to originally possess genders, with all of them gendering male (and later female, shortly before the change to remove genders entirely). Despite having genders though, they still could not breed. The current sprites were based loosely on the sprites of Yoshi, which were the Dinos' original sprites before the Great Fog. It is because of this that they have a different art direction than the rest of the dragons on-site, opting for a more light-hearted and cartoonish style. Another theory for this art direction however, is that they're not considered entirely serious in terms of the game's lore, and are seen as more of an on-site joke like the Chickens.

When sorted by "Breed", they are listed as "Yoshi Yellow" on a user's scroll.

Official Creature Descriptions

Egg

"This egg looks like it doesn't belong; it is brightly colored with white spots. It's much heavier than the other eggs."

Hatchling

"You were right, it's not the same species as the other eggs. So if it's not a dragon, what is it?"

Mature Hatchling

"You were right, it's not the same species as the other eggs. So if it's not a dragon, what is it?
And look, it's gotten bigger! Maybe it will reach its full size soon."

Adult

"Finally, after much feeding, your baby has grown into a full Dino! Dinos can eat almost anything, including things with spikes. In order to do so, they must have very tough stomachs. Yellow Dinos have very long necks, which they use to reach and eat food located high off the ground."

Trivia

  • The original sprites for Dinos didn't have a differing sprite for hatchling and mature hatchlings, much like the Chicken still has today.
