Official descriptions[]

Egg[]

This dull egg feels cozily warm.

Hatchling[]

Aww...it's a cute baby dragon. You almost can't draw your attention away from it.

Mature hatchling[]

Aww...it's a cute baby dragon. You almost can't draw your attention away from it.

And look! It has grown fins! It must be close to maturing.

Adult[]

The bright specks that adorn Xol Dragons mesmerize all who behold them. But those who gaze upon these capricious dragons must be cautious, for it can be difficult to resist their charm. The allure is especially strong during sunset, when Xols perform intricate dances, their agile bodies rising and falling within the water as their ornamental fins shimmer softly. Unwary spectators may find themselves in peril if they give in to the silent call of the dragons’ dangerous beauty, for the waters in which the Xols dance scald all those who enter. Thankfully, anyone who is wise enough to recognize their magic is able to resist it while still enjoying the display. Although dangerous in the water, Xols are relatively harmless on land unless provoked. Xol Dragons lay their eggs on land heated by volcanic activity, and the warmth helps develop their common red coloring. However, when eggs stay below a certain temperature for too long, this development is stunted, leading to the existence of blue individuals.

Variant determination[]

Xol Dragons' variant is determined by the use of Incubate on a Xol egg. When first bred or stolen, the egg is blue and will hatch into a blue Xol. Incubating a Xol egg will warm it up and turn it into the red form. Abandoning or Teleporting an egg removes the effects of incubation, and will cause the Xol egg to turn back into its blue form. Once the Xol has hatched, the color becomes permanent.

Appearance/Basic Anatomy

  • Xol Dragons have strong jaws which can easily bite through bones.
  • The lower jaw of adult males is more pronounced. Females have a sleeker head shape.
  • Their horns are covered with skin and small scales. On males, the topmost horn on each side branches off and ends in a tendril-like appandage.
  • Females tend to have a smaller fin on their upper back than males.
  • Have an orb on their foreheads which perceives temperatures particularly well and acts like a third eye.

Hatchling Behavior

  • Love attention and demand it through magic.
  • Only bath in shallow water until they are older.
  • Constantly put effort into being noticed.
  • Will wreak chaos if disregarded.

Adult Behavior

  • As a group they’re able to heat water to deadly temperatures within a very short time frame. They use this ability to kill prey and to protect their territory.
  • Synchronize in their groups through their dances. All Xols within a group breed at about the same time and might fight with each other over their desired partner.
  • Their mood is very unstable, although their group synchronization helps to mitigate that problem. If separated, Xol Dragons become unbearable.
  • Outside of water these dragons are weaker and often no longer hungry. During those times they are somewhat approachable and it’s even possible to hold a conversation.
  • Water seems to promote their aggressiveness. Accordingly, they are also more snappy and aggressive on land during rainfall.
  • Blue Xols aren’t able to hold as much fire mana as red ones and can‘t use fire magic as efficiently. They are accepted nonetheless.
  • Hostile towards competitors, though other Xol Dragons may find acceptance by proving their loyalty to the group.

Habitat

  • Have their territories in warm or hot lakes or thermal springs.

Diet

  • Omnivorous, but mainly interested in meat or fish.
  • Like their meals cooked.
  • Hatchlings eat plants and leftovers of the adults’ prey and like to play with their food before eating it.

Trivia[]

  • The name of this dragon is derived from "axolotl". [1]
