==Official descriptions==
During the original release a glitch during the early hours of the 14th caused eggs to auto-abandon. As an apology the affected scrolls were activated for alts. These users would hatch alternate-colored Sweetlings, with a black and red color scheme and a skull and cross bones. Alt Sweetlings were designed to represent 'Singles Awareness Day,' or 'SAD'.

===Hatchling===
Unlike other alt dragons that come in regular and alt forms, alt sweetlings are not true alts. All sweetlings are the same form, with the "alt" appearance being purely cosmetic to particular scrolls. All sweetlings automatically change to a scroll's colouration regardless of their lineage or whether they are eggs or hatchlings. Traded sweetlings thus become the colouration of the scroll they arrive on, and may change from alts, become alts, or remain the same depending on their destination. As a result, scrolls may only obtain alts or normal colouration and not both.

Sweetlings are the all-male Valentine's Day dragon released during the Valentine's Day event of 2010. As a limited release dragon, Sweetlings are only capable of producing Sweetling eggs during a brief period before Valentine's Day is celebrated in February. They can still be bred to all year round, producing the female's breed of egg. Each scroll is limited to 2 cave-born dragons of this breed, like all other Valentine's Day dragons.

Variant determination[]

During their initial release, a bug during the early hours of the 14th caused all caught eggs to auto-abandon. As an apology, the affected scrolls were marked to receive an alternate color of Sweetling. These users would hatch Sweetlings with a black and red color scheme, with a skull and crossbones on their flank. Alternate Sweetlings were designed to represent "Singles Awareness Day," or "SAD."

After breed limits were relaxed in the 2013 Holiday season, any bred Sweetling on a bug-affected scroll would become an alternate Sweetling. In 2018, TJ09 announced that the alt Sweetling mechanic would be retired and only pink Sweetlings would be available moving forward.[1] Following community feedback, the mechanic was adjusted instead of being removed entirely. Alternate Sweetlings can currently only be obtained by users who were affected by the 2010 auto-abandon bug, and only if the Sweetling's father was black alt Sweetling. If either of these conditions is not met, it will result in the standard pink coloration.[2]

Note: Even after hatching, an alt Sweetling will revert to the standard Sweetling coloring if the hatchling is transferred to a non-alt scroll.
