Dragon Cave Wiki

Starsinger Dragons, or Holiday 2018 Dragons, are the all-female Holiday dragon released during the Holidays of 2018. As a limited-release dragon, they are only capable of producing more Starsinger eggs during a brief period when the Holidays are celebrated in December. They can still be bred to all year round, producing the male's breed of egg. Each scroll is limited to 2 cave-born dragons of this breed, like all other Holiday dragons.

Under Breed sort, these dragons sort as "Holiday Dragon (2018)" on a user's scroll.

Official descriptions[]

This egg glows with a soft, soothing light.

Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It chirps and croons at you in gentle melodies.

Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It chirps and croons at you in gentle melodies.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Starsinger Dragons are warm-hearted creatures who make their appearance at the start of winter. During the day, these dragons bask in the sun to absorb light into the crystals at their chest and between their horns. They will then perch high on tree tops or ledges at nightfall, where the shine of their crystals serve as a beacon for any weary travelers who have lost their way. However, these dragons are most well-known for the melodic songs they sing through the night, which can echo out for miles around in harmony with other Starsingers. These songs are often immortalized as festive carols and never fail to instill a sense of cheer and camaraderie during the holiday season.

Appearance/Basic Anatomy

  • Quadrupedal in stature, though most can be found sitting upright and using their tail for balance. Forelimbs are used mostly for grasping onto tree branches to keep steady and are short.
  • Are not very adept at moving quickly on all fours, but are excellent at air maneuvers even in difficult-to-navigate weather such as snowstorms.
  • Despite their size, they are relatively light-weight and usually don’t break tree branches when perched. However, they are also surprisingly durable.
  • Are completely covered in fur besides the belly and throat scutes. This fur is very soft like fleece and has an almost satin-like sheen. The fur on the chest and tail has an insulating effect and is much denser and often smells like roasted chestnuts.
  • Have two crystals; one that floats between the horns and another that grows at the center of the chest. The longer a Starsinger sunbathes during the day, the brighter the light the crystals emit at night when they sing.
  • Most of these dragons’ teeth are short and flat for crushing and grinding the shells of nuts or tearing tree bark, but all four canines are large and pointed for defending themselves or their friends and family.

Hatchling Behavior

  • Cheerful and easily pleased, as well as very trusting of any and all creatures around them.
  • The head crystal is taken from the egg shell as the egg hatches, but does not “attach” above the hatchling’s horns until they are ready to leave the egg entirely. Chest crystals are developed in embryo.
  • Very eager to help others, even with the most basic of tasks.
  • Never seem to stop making some sort of noise; the tunes they hum are a mix of those picked up from other dragons or ones they devise themselves.
  • As they don’t generate much heat on their own, younger hatchlings are almost always snuggled up to someone else. Older hatchlings that can sustain a higher level of heat will share it with other hatchlings or animals.
  • The milestone for maturity in a hatchling is their quality of voice. As their vocals become more clear and controlled, the closer to adulthood they are.

Adult Behavior

  • Very social dragons that prefer to gather in large groups with other actively vocal dragons versus being alone. It is not recommended to isloate Starsingers.
  • Despite their love of music, they are not competitive, but instead seek companions to harmonize with and create beautiful songs to teach. They do not enjoy out-performing others or drawing attention to themselves as individuals.
  • Have a very well-developed memory and will never forget a tune it hears, even as a hatchling, and will pass along their favorites to their offspring. Some of these well-known songs have become a staple of the holiday season throughout the years.
  • Vocal range differs wildly in the population from bass to soprano and everything in between, with no favoring between genders of either side of the range. Starsingers tend to gather with others of a different range to create the best harmony.
  • Mates are selected based on lung capacity and how long a potential mate can sustain a note. If a female cannot make a decision based on that alone, she chooses whichever male harmonizes best with her own vocal type.
  • The crystals of a Starsinger are called Headstone and Heartstones, and emit light whenever they sing. Excess light is stored for energy during the day as the adults rest or forage for physical nourishment.
  • Adults are capable of producing a small flame, though it is typically only hot enough to roast nuts foraged for food.
  • Mourn the passing of friends and family by singing a unique song created solely for that individual.

  • Can live anywhere so long as high perches are available, favorites being tall tree tops or high cliff ledges.
  • Do not fare well in hot weather, and can become lethargic and lazy in intense heat.
  • Nests are built from sculpted mud, tree branches, or both depending on the environment and insulated with fur.

  • Photosynthesize through their crystals, and can be sustained on this alone if needed.
  • Most Starsingers will consume half of their energy stores through physical nourishment with a diet of roasted nuts and tree sap, as much of the light stored in their crystals is later lost while singing. They rely more on food deeper into the winter.
  • Favorite foods include roasted chestnuts or other sugary foods, such as sugar cubes, honey, or tree sap.
  • Hatchlings are not capable of photosynthesizing well enough to sustain themselves and eat their fill of food provided to them. Some take to drinking sap directly from trees if they start to feel hungry.
