Dragon Cave Wiki

Sophrosyne Dragons (previously Soulpeace Dragons) are a hybrid species released on April 7, 2013, alongside the Royal Crimson Dragons. They share the same egg description as Silver Dragons.

Sophrosyne Dragons have a breed specific action called "Remove Curse". It allows them to "uncurse" Undead Dragons and remove them from a user's scroll; prior to this BSA, there was no way to remove or release an Undead dragon, resulting in them being permanent additions to users' scrolls.

Official descriptions[]

This egg gives off a beautiful glow.

Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon.

Mature hatchling[]

Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Sophrosyne Dragons are a rare sight, typically making themselves known only to protect and heal the vulnerable. A visit from one serves as a reminder that kindness prevails, and that there’s always hope for positive change. While it is known that they possess the power to reverse botched spells, some claim they can even cure methodically-cast curses. This has never been formally documented, but these dragons have been seen arriving in the aftermath of violence, and the scars of tragedy seem to heal faster in their wake. The feathers of a Sophrosyne have thus become a symbol of perseverance and light in the face of darkness.

Appearance/Basic Anatomy

  • Sophrosyne Dragons are medium-large dragons with feathered bodies. Their feathers are subtly iridescent, and even their wing membranes are covered in very fine hairlike feathers.
  • Sophrosynes have gently swirled patterns of purple that vary slightly between individuals. While they usually have more blue than purple, this is not universal.
  • Sophrosynes have large, dark blue eyes with round pupils, and very keen vision.
  • The pale cream wing feathers of a Sophrosyne have stronger traces of light mana than the rest of their feathers.
  • Sophrosynes have calming, musical calls that inspire a sense of focus and tranquility.

Hatchling Behavior

  • Sophrosyne hatchlings are shy, gentle creatures.
  • While affectionate to their parents, young Sophrosynes will flee from nearly anything else that is larger than them.
  • However, as they grow older and their wings develop, Sophrosynes grow a bit bolder, and start to develop a strong sense of compassion.
  • Sophrosyne hatchlings may roll in dust to dull their iridescence if left alone.
  • Once their shyness fades, Sophrosynes become quite kind towards those who have nobody else looking out for them, even as hatchlings.

Adult Behavior

  • Sophrosyne Dragons spend very little time where they might be seen by others.
  • Paradoxically, for such shy dragons, they are drawn out by conflict and tragedy.
  • Sophrosynes almost invariably favor those who are pressured to hide who they are, and scorn those who seek to hurt others.
  • Sophrosynes are not particularly verbal dragons, even in telepathy, but they are not unintelligent, and are quite capable of parsing social nuances.
  • While they rarely interact with individuals, when they do, Sophrosynes are extremely sweet and affectionate towards those who they favor, and approach slowly and gently, with very telegraphed movement, as if they are afraid of startling others.
  • Sophrosynes usually live in bonded pairs or triads, and take a long time to find another partner should they lose theirs.

  • Sophrosynes are only rarely sighted in the wild, but when they are, they favor alpine habitat.
  • They do not tend lairs or territory, and are nomadic, only remaining in one place when incubating eggs.
  • They are meticulous about leaving as few traces of their presence as possible.

  • Sophrosynes are primarily herbivorous, and eat a wide variety of plant matter.
  • They favor leaves, flowers, fruits, and other parts that can be eaten without killing the plant, but they will dig up tubers and eat stems if they are hungry enough.
  • Sophrosynes are not unwilling to eat meat, but will not hunt, only feed on creatures that are already dead. They have surprisingly strong stomachs for carrion.
  • After eating, Sophrosynes wash their faces and paws in water if they can.

  • Sophrosyne hatchlings are one of the few breeds that don't have an additional descriptor after "Aww... It's a cute baby dragon."

Breed replacement[]

Soulpeace retired concept

Soulpeace Dragon as seen in the Encyclopedia, prior to replacement.

The Sophrosyne Dragon replaced the Soulpeace on May 8, 2021. Citing detestable and discriminatory views and conduct by the original artist, Dragon Cave removed all dragon breeds created by the artist and replaced them with new concepts and art. A total of 10 breeds were replaced in this update. An official statement by site administrator TJ09 can be found on the forums.
