'''Seasonal Dragons''' were released along various dates and are one of the few dragons to possess different forms depending on the physical environment of [[Valkemare]]. The first Seasonal dragon to be released was the Summer variant, followed by Autumn, Winter and lastly Spring. As the name suggests, Seasonal dragon's variants follow the different seasons of the planet: a different colored adult and hatchling can be caught for each Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

*Spring Seasonals are sturdy, average-sized dragons with fine green scales and soft pink crests, underwings, and tail frills.
  +
*Their scales, some of which look like crystallized leaves, are subtly iridescent.
  +
*The frilly pink tail membrane assists Springs in gliding on the early warm-air currents.
  +
*A Spring’s vibrant pink head crest is hard and bony, protecting the dragon’s face. The delicate pale-green frill that runs along the back of the neck is more fragile.
  +
*While male Springs have two sets of prongs extending from their head crest, females have a single, larger set.
  +
*These dragons have large eyes in varying shades of bright blue and green, rarely yellow, with round pupils.

|hatchling =
  +
*Spring hatchlings can be spotted playing chase with hatchlings of other breeds. They will run until the others have given up, then proceed to bounce in circles around them.
  +
*Adolescent Spring fledglings can be seen gliding on the wind. They seem to enjoy catching flower petals on the breeze as they fly past.
  +
*Newly-hatched Springs can be shy at first, but quickly take delight in rolling around and playing.
  +
*Their attention as hatchlings is easily diverted by colorful flowers, rocks, and other trinkets, which they will bring back to their parents or caretakers with great excitement.
  +
*Adolescent Springs are much calmer than young hatchlings, but still quite energetic, and they learn to fly early on.
  +
*The health of the forest in which they grow up affects the amount of pink and the vibrance of the coloration of growing Springs, and as adults, one can determine whether they grew up in a healthy forest.
  +
|adult =
  +
*Spring Seasonals are most active in springtime, and are rather energetic dragons.
  +
*Springs live in small family groups, ranging from three to fifteen adult dragons and their young hatchlings.
  +
*If an area gets too crowded, the family groups will break off and seek out new territory, as they are territorial, but not particularly violent.
  +
*Springs spend a lot of time playing and grooming each other, and tend to be rather unhappy if entirely alone for extended periods.
  +
*In late summer, individual groups of Springs aggregate into massive herds to find mates and stake out new nesting territory in preparation for the winter.
  +
*When the massive herd disperses, the territories are re-established for the coming year, and young adults form new groups to keep the cycle going.

|habitat =
  +
*Spring Seasonals gravitate towards temperate forests as their ideal habitat.
  +
*The new growth that occurs in spring after a cold winter is ideal for the health of these dragons.
  +
*Springs brumate in winter, living off stored fat and becoming largely inactive.
  +
*They tend to nest near clearings, where rising warm air can be used as a takeoff point when they wish to soar long distances.
  +
|diet =
  +
*Spring Seasonals are largely herbivorous, grazing on new leaves and soft, tender plants that have just sprouted as a favored food source.
  +
*They also feed on nectar-rich flowers and berries.
  +
*Springs, like other Seasonals, will opportunistically raid nests of smaller creatures if they happen across them, eating eggs, but do not actively hunt and are unlikely to scavenge from large carcasses.
  +
*Springs are also known to eat wasp and bee hives on occasion, consuming the honeycomb and brood comb alike.

  +
*Newly-hatched Summers can be shy at first, but quickly take delight in playing and seeking out cozy spots to nap.
  +
*As hatchlings, they are drawn to bright, reflective rocks, which they may bring to show their parent or caretaker, or merely gather up with their friends.
  +
*Adolescent Summers are less lazy than young hatchlings, but still quite calm and serene, and they learn to fly early on.

*Summer Seasonals are largely herbivorous, grazing on grasses and tougher mature vegetation as a favored food source. They also produce a lot of the energy they need by basking in the sunlight.
  +
*They also feed on fruits and will dig up roots and tubers to supplement their diets.
  +
*Summers, like other Seasonals, will opportunistically raid nests of smaller creatures if they happen across them, eating eggs, but do not actively hunt large prey and are unlikely to scavenge from large carcasses.

Seasonal Dragons were released along various dates and are one of the few dragons to possess different forms depending on the physical environment of Valkemare. The first Seasonal dragon to be released was the Summer variant, followed by Autumn, Winter and lastly Spring. As the name suggests, Seasonal Dragons' variants follow the different seasons of the planet: a different colored adult and hatchling can be caught for each Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

The variant of the dragon depends only on the current season; therefore, parents of one seasonal color can produce offspring of different seasonal colors. Lineages containing different variants of the Seasonal dragon are quite popular among players as a result.

Q: When do the seasonal eggs switch to the next season?
A: The seasonal dragon eggs always switch on the solstices and equinoxes of a given season. Since this varies from year to year, it is recommended that you look up a calendar such as this one to figure out when a specific season begins in the northern hemisphere.

Official Dragon Descriptions

Egg

"The markings on this egg match the weather outside."

Hatchling

"Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. It perfectly depicts summer/autumn/winter/spring weather."

Mature Hatchling

"Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. It perfectly depicts summer/autumn/winter/spring weather.
And look! It's grown its wings! It must be close to maturing.
"

Adult

"Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season they are born in. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow."

Appearance/Basic Anatomy

  • Spring Seasonals are sturdy, average-sized dragons with fine green scales and soft pink crests, underwings, and tail frills.
  • Their scales, some of which look like crystallized leaves, are subtly iridescent.
  • The frilly pink tail membrane assists Springs in gliding on the early warm-air currents.
  • A Spring’s vibrant pink head crest is hard and bony, protecting the dragon’s face. The delicate pale-green frill that runs along the back of the neck is more fragile.
  • While male Springs have two sets of prongs extending from their head crest, females have a single, larger set.
  • These dragons have large eyes in varying shades of bright blue and green, rarely yellow, with round pupils.

Hatchling Behavior

  • Spring hatchlings can be spotted playing chase with hatchlings of other breeds. They will run until the others have given up, then proceed to bounce in circles around them.
  • Adolescent Spring fledglings can be seen gliding on the wind. They seem to enjoy catching flower petals on the breeze as they fly past.
  • Newly-hatched Springs can be shy at first, but quickly take delight in rolling around and playing.
  • Their attention as hatchlings is easily diverted by colorful flowers, rocks, and other trinkets, which they will bring back to their parents or caretakers with great excitement.
  • Adolescent Springs are much calmer than young hatchlings, but still quite energetic, and they learn to fly early on.
  • The health of the forest in which they grow up affects the amount of pink and the vibrance of the coloration of growing Springs, and as adults, one can determine whether they grew up in a healthy forest.

Adult Behavior

  • Spring Seasonals are most active in springtime, and are rather energetic dragons.
  • Springs live in small family groups, ranging from three to fifteen adult dragons and their young hatchlings.
  • If an area gets too crowded, the family groups will break off and seek out new territory, as they are territorial, but not particularly violent.
  • Springs spend a lot of time playing and grooming each other, and tend to be rather unhappy if entirely alone for extended periods.
  • In late summer, individual groups of Springs aggregate into massive herds to find mates and stake out new nesting territory in preparation for the winter.
  • When the massive herd disperses, the territories are re-established for the coming year, and young adults form new groups to keep the cycle going.

Habitat

  • Spring Seasonals gravitate towards temperate forests as their ideal habitat.
  • The new growth that occurs in spring after a cold winter is ideal for the health of these dragons.
  • Springs brumate in winter, living off stored fat and becoming largely inactive.
  • They tend to nest near clearings, where rising warm air can be used as a takeoff point when they wish to soar long distances.

Diet

  • Spring Seasonals are largely herbivorous, grazing on new leaves and soft, tender plants that have just sprouted as a favored food source.
  • They also feed on nectar-rich flowers and berries.
  • Springs, like other Seasonals, will opportunistically raid nests of smaller creatures if they happen across them, eating eggs, but do not actively hunt and are unlikely to scavenge from large carcasses.
  • Springs are also known to eat wasp and bee hives on occasion, consuming the honeycomb and brood comb alike.

Appearance/Basic Anatomy

  • Summer Seasonals are sturdy, average-sized dragons with fine green scales, pale green head crests, and warm gold underwings and tail frills. They have an orange-gold orb in the center of their crest that radiates warmth.
  • Their scales, some of which look like crystallized leaves, are reflective and warm to the touch.
  • A Summer’s broad wings are well-suited for catching warm thermals for soaring.
  • Bright gold head crests are hard and bony, protecting the dragon’s face. The delicate gold frill that runs along the back of their necks is more fragile.
  • While male Summers have two sets of prongs extending from their head crest, females have a single, larger set.
  • These dragons have large eyes in varying shades of bright blue and green, rarely yellow, with round pupils.

Hatchling Behavior

  • Summer hatchlings greatly enjoy sunbathing, and can be spotted on any sunny, open surfaces, particularly large, flat rocks in open spaces.
  • Adolescent Summer fledglings can be seen gliding on the wind. They seem to enjoy seeking out warm air currents over particularly sunny areas.
  • Newly-hatched Summers can be shy at first, but quickly take delight in playing and seeking out cozy spots to nap.
  • As hatchlings, they are drawn to bright, reflective rocks, which they may bring to show their parent or caretaker, or merely gather up with their friends.
  • Adolescent Summers are less lazy than young hatchlings, but still quite calm and serene, and they learn to fly early on.
  • The amount of sun they absorb as they grow up affects the amount of gold and the vibrance of the coloration of growing Summers, and as adults, one can determine whether they grew up in a sunny area.

Adult Behavior

  • Summer Seasonals are most active in summertime, and are rather relaxed dragons.
  • Summers live in moderately-sized family groups, ranging from eight to twenty-five adult dragons and their young hatchlings.
  • If an area gets too crowded, the family groups will break off and seek out new territory, as they are territorial, but not particularly violent.

  • Summers brumate in winter, living off stored fat and becoming largely inactive.
  • They tend to nest near woodlands, where they can retreat into the undergrowth at night where they are harder to pick off.

Diet

  • Summer Seasonals are largely herbivorous, grazing on grasses and tougher mature vegetation as a favored food source. They also produce a lot of the energy they need by basking in the sunlight.
  • They also feed on fruits and will dig up roots and tubers to supplement their diets.
  • Summers, like other Seasonals, will opportunistically raid nests of smaller creatures if they happen across them, eating eggs, but do not actively hunt large prey and are unlikely to scavenge from large carcasses.
  • Summers are also known to fish in rivers, making them the only Seasonals to regularly consume meat.

  • Autumn Seasonals gravitate towards forested foothills as their ideal habitat.
  • The fallen leaf litter that builds up at the end of summer is ideal for the health of these dragons.
  • Autumns aestivate over the summer, living off stored fat and becoming largely inactive.
  • They tend to nest near the base of mountains, where the leaf litter piles up densely to provide plenty of nesting material.

Diet

  • Autumn Seasonals are largely herbivorous, grazing on ripe fruits, the seeds of grasses and grains, and digging up fattened roots.
  • They also frequently raid beehives for honey and brood combs, though they will not fight other honey-loving dragons over a hive.
