Ridgewing Dragons were released on August 28, 2010, along with Flamingo Wyverns. The "55 Days Release" was named due to the amount of time that lapsed since the the prior release (55 days). As of August 28, 2017, these dragons can produce Carina Dragons when bred to Nebula Dragons.

Ridgewings are among the few dragons that possess a color variation. Unlike Alts, both colors can be cave-born or bred, with the tan color being slightly less likely to be encountered in either situation.

Official Dragon Descriptions

Egg

"A cool mountain breeze blows around this egg."

Hatchling

"Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. It was born with a full set of wings."

Mature Hatchling

"Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. It was born with a full set of wings.
And look! It's wings have grown larger! It must be close to maturing."

Adult

"Ridgewing dragons live just below the snow level on the upper slopes of mountains. They are a friendly, playful breed and enjoy dancing in wind currents near their homes or plummeting down into valleys from great heights. Their wings, by far their most striking feature, grow in fin-like ridges along their backs. While their bodies lack markings to blend better with their surroundings, a Ridgewing dragon's wings have bright markings in the colors of the flowers that grow in their mountain habitat. Occasionally different-colored individuals can be found, but they are rare because their striking coloring offers little protection."

Appearance/Basic Anatomy

  • Lithe bodies with two large fin-like wings all along their back.
  • A high frilly crest grows from their forehead all along the spine before merging with the wings along the tail.
  • Long, blunt claws good for digging.
  • Extremely keen eyesight.
  • Hatchling wings nearly triple in size by adolesence.

Hatchling Behavior

  • Natural explorers, hatchlings are very curious.
  • Trust and love easily.
  • Loyal, they will remember kindnesses done to them as hatchlings well into adulthood.
  • Love resting and romping in flower fields, making them extremely effective pollinators.
  • Easily distracted.
  • Love playing a variety of games as well as performing aerial acrobatics.
  • Wear out easily and spend nearly as much time napping as they do playing.

Adult Behavior

  • Very sociable, preferring to live in packs of varying sizes.
  • Natural-born fliers, they enjoy showing off with fancy aerial stunts.
  • Acrobatic maneuvers are intrinsic to their mating rituals, as they will perform a series of sky dances together to test their compatibility.
  • Compassionate parents.
  • Observant and good at reading the emotions and needs of other dragons and even humans.
  • Familial units may not stick together for life but will always remember each other.
  • Prefer flight over fight.
  • Do not have many natural defenses aside from some camouflage.

Habitat

  • Live in mountainous regions.
  • They prefer open meadows and clean slopes to forests.
  • Large colonies consisting of many families and packs can sometimes be found near prominent cliffs.
  • Well suited to the harsh conditions of an alpine tundra, but tend to avoid the snowy peaks.
  • Do not do well in constant snow or ice.

Diet

  • Prefer eating plants and insects but may also scavenge for meat.
  • Claws are useful for digging up grubs and other tasty snacks.
  • Must eat a lot to keep up their energy.
  • Metabolism natrually slows if they do not eat enough, allowing them to enter a hibernation phase until food supply rises again.

Trivia

  • During the initial release, the mature hatchlings displayed this incorrect description:
Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. It was born with a full set of wings.
And look! It's grown its wings. It must be close to maturing.
