Kyanite Pygmies were released on August 21, 2016, alongside Aeon Wyverns, Dark Lumina Dragons, Almerald Dragons and Kingcrowne Dragons.

Like all pygmies, their eggs cannot be bitten by Vampire Dragons and they can only breed with other pygmies.

Official descriptions[]

Egg[]

This tiny cobalt egg has a crystalline sheen.

Hatchling[]

Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s so small and energetic that you’d lose it, if not for its dull luster.

Mature hatchling[]

Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s so small and energetic that you’d lose it, if not for its dull luster.

And look! It’s gotten bigger! It must be close to maturing.

Adult[]

Kyanite Pygmies are a feisty breed, always full of energy. Playfully ebullient, these tiny and elusive dragons like to chase after one another, darting in and out of small alcoves and other such hiding places. They often dig small burrows underneath large trees and nibble on the roots for sustenance. They rely on the towering oaks’ formidable trunks and vast immensity to hide them from predators, something their small size aids in. Kyanites also secrete a weak toxin when threatened, which further protects them from intruders. However, this poison is not strong enough to affect larger creatures, humans included.

Appearance/Basic Anatomy

  • Have a single curled antenna extending from the back of the head.
  • Their bodies are covered in tiny, deep blue scales.
  • Up close, their scales have a very slight iridescence. It’s not noticeable from farther away.
  • Their paws are webbed and clawed, which helps them burrow.
  • Newly hatched dragons are quite small and would be easy to lose track of if not for their bright color.
  • At first, hatchlings grow very quickly, doubling in size in only a couple days.
  • Their tongues are forked at the tip.

Hatchling Behavior

  • Spend their first several days eating large amounts to keep up with their quickly-growing bodies.
  • Once they’ve matured slightly and their growth slows down, they become much more energetic and excitable.
  • Newly hatched dragons sometimes nap in their eggshells before fully emerging.

Adult Behavior

  • They’re sought after as pets due to their playful nature and small size, but their habitat conditions can make that unideal for many.
  • Their weak neurotoxin makes them ideal helpers in kitchens and cafés, where they can help kill rodents and other such pests without harming humans.
  • Though they live underground, they’re also quite able climbers, and occasionally venture into high tree branches to scout their territory for predators.
  • Domestically raised individuals are quite sociable, but in the wild they keep to themselves and are distrusting of others.
  • Tend to sleep in shorter bursts throughout the day rather than all at once in day or night.
  • Sometimes, Kyanites kept indoors will try to form burrows inside the house, regardless of the materials the house is constructed out of. This usually goes poorly, both for the dragon and for the house.

Habitat

  • Burrow in the ground, making dens underneath large trees.
  • Prefer lush, wooded areas, but don’t do as well in regions that are too humid.

Diet

  • Their diet largely consists of tree roots, nuts, insects, and small rodents.
  • Young hatchlings have been observed trying to eat rocks. They are usually unsuccessful.
  • Older hatchlings seem to play with their food. Larger groups of hatchlings have been observed engaging in what can only be described as food fights.
  • Seem to enjoy hunting moths and butterflies, but will usually let them go rather than eat them.

Trivia[]

  • These pygmies were originally named Sapphire Pygmies, but the name was changed after the release of Sapphire Dragons.[1]

Additional information[]

Hey, everyone! Here's a little more information on the Kyanites:

  • They're sought after as pets due to their playful nature and small size, but because they hide in the ground and beneath large trees, they can be hard to come by. Demand for domestic stock far exceeds supply.
  • Their weak neurotoxin makes them ideal helpers in kitchens and cafés, where they can help kill rodents and other such pests.
  • Though they live underground, they're also quite able climbers, and occasionally venture into high tree branches to scout their territory for predators.

I actually didn't mean to make these dragons; back when we were working on the Brewing Up Mischief event last year, I was scratch-sprinting [sic] the Tanglebracken item, and I noticed the sketchy sprite I had looked like a dragon. So, rather than keep that as the item, I turned it into the Kyanite adult sprite, and started over on the Tanglebracken.''
