Flare-Tail Pygmies were released on May 21, 2023, alongside Arrakyma Dragons, Hunter Dragons, Lightstreak Dragons, Marocephalic Dragons, Silvershade Wyverns, and Stellarum Wyrms. Flare-Tail Pygmies occur in red or blue colored variants.

Like all pygmy dragons, their eggs cannot be bitten by Vampire Dragons and they can only breed with other pygmy breeds.

Official descriptions[]

Egg[]

Crystals are growing around the shell of this little egg.

Hatchling[]

Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its ears perk up whenever a mana source draws near.

Mature hatchling[]

Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its ears perk up whenever a mana source draws near.

And look! Colored crystals have sprouted from its body! It must be close to maturing.

Adult[]

Flare-Tail Pygmies are often found nesting in colder caves with naturally occurring mineral licks. Mana rich crystals grow from their body and act as their primary source of magic. They channel the magic from the crystals into their tails, causing their tails and crystals to glow bright and beautiful, shining with a colored light. The more potent the crystals, the more intense the light. This colorful display acts as a warning to any potential predators that despite their size, they will not make for an easy meal as the brightest of tails can burn hot enough to cut through even the toughest of dragon hides. The black patterning on the Flare-Tail Pygmy is genetic and can vary greatly from one pygmy to another, however the color of the crystals appears to be influenced by an individual’s personality with more aggressive and passionate dragons having red crystals while more serene and passive ones wield blue. Though these two colors are the most commonly observed, they are not the only colors seen, and though rare, sometimes the crystals will change color due to a major life changing experience.

Additional information[]

[...]Ok, now for the Flare-Tails, most of you guessed it, they're inspired by Star Wars. Initially they were just a doodle I had done with the thought 'what if kyber crystal pygmy?' and I hadn't intended to finish them but then @JOTB swept in like a hero to help bring them to life. So super thanks to JOTB, without them these guys never would have been made.

Your extra funfacts for these.
-They are sensitive to mana and can track sources of it with special sensory nerves in their ears. They choose their mates by sensing how powerful another's mana is.
-When they are not using mana to light their tails, the tails are a dull white.
-They would likely be a target of poaching due to the mana rich crystals growing from their bodies. When removed from the pygmy, the crystals lose their color.
-Though color changes in their crystal do not happen often, when they do happen the change is usually gradual, with the shade shifting steadily old over time into the new color.
-Color doesn't determine 'goodness level', so you can absolutely have a red Flare-tail that's a good noodle at heart but might uh...be a bit vocal and rash about how they show it. Reversely, you could totally have a calm, peaceful blue that will not raise a claw to help you if you need them to.

And as a reminder, while these breeds were inspired by Stargate and Star Wars, that doesn't mean they're going to be compliant to the canon of Stargate and Star Wars. They're designed with nods to the series that inspired them, but were not made for those series, they were made to exist in the world of Dragon Cave. So try not to apply lore from Stargate and Star Wars to these guys as if it were fact.
