Fiona's Closet was a hidden object game featured in Dragon Cave's Valentine's Day 2022 event. The game required players to find a set of items hidden in a scene. The list of items corresponded to a short story, with a new story available each day of the event. Players can click on the items in the scene to collect them. Clicking items that were not on the list 3 times caused the puzzle to reset, and the player would start over.

Introduction[]

Valentine 2022 Fiona's Closet screencap

Fiona's Closet game screen.

A well known local potion maker, Fiona lives in a sweet cottage near a village in Galsreim. The whole village is buzzing with excitement as Valentine’s Day approaches. Every year they celebrate the holiday with a gathering of all in the area with food, with games, and with bright lights and decorations. Even the dragons in the area come into the village for the celebration—well, most of them do...
Join Fiona in her preparations for the celebration via the story below. Come back each day for a new story.

Collecting items[]

Players collect items by clicking on them on the game screen. Clicking an item revealed the item's name and image on the game's home page. Messages were displayed to the player to indicate whether they had collected a needed item, found an unneeded item, or clicked on a non-item space.

Correct item found
You pick up the [ITEM]. “Perfect,” you think, “just what I was looking for.”
Incorrect item clicked
You pick up the [ITEM]. “Hmm, that’s not quite what I need right now,” you ponder out loud. Hopefully no one hears you talking to yourself.
Non-item space clicked
You search high and low, looking for anything of significance, but it appears that there is nothing of value in this particular cranny.
Puzzle reset
Your search is interrupted when, seemingly out of nowhere, several Misfit Pygmies appear! In the ensuing chaos, you lose track of everything you had picked up. “Ugh, back to the beginning!”, you think to yourself.

Stories[]

Fiona's Closet[]

You’re so excited! Valentine’s Day is coming soon, and there is a lot to do to get ready—more to do to help the village be ready. So, you roll up your sleeves and prepare to spend the day dusting and cleaning your cottage, weeding the front flower beds, and gathering the ingredients for a few, friendly potions for your friends.
There’s a knock at the door just as you’ve pulled out your cleaning rags. Quickly you drop what you were doing and answer. All you can see through the door is a single, large eye. “Hello,” whispers the stone dragon, the vibrations from his voice nearly shaking down your shelves of herbs. “I hope you can help me. I heard from a friend that you have monk’s wart mushrooms available. I just need a little one to dust around my front door so this annoying monk doesn’t show up on Valentine’s day with her pamphlets. Really, just a tiny little bit of one would be enough. Do you think you can help me?”
You hold up a finger. “One moment; I think I have what you need but I have to find it.” You duck into your closet, where you have all your fungi and herbs neatly labeled and shelved. Oh no! The vibrations from the dragon’s voice have knocked everything down and jumbled it up. You need to find the monk’s wart mushroom!
Needed items
Monk’s wart mushroom
Dust rag
Brown mushroom
Bundle of lavender
Paper label
Empty jar
Flask
Cauldron
Candle
Success message
Pleased with your success, you hand the stone dragon a small jar of powdered monk’s wart, stabilized with just a few hints of other ingredients, guaranteed to repel even the most persistent monk.

Where Did I Put the Bee's Breath[]

It’s a new day, with a new task. Yesterday’s visit from the stone dragon left your closet in complete disarray. Time to sort that out so you can find all the potion ingredients when you need them. You gather up a dusting cloth and some fresh labels – might as well do some updating while you’re at it, and head for the closet. This might take all day.
You’ve barely begun when there’s a soft knock on the front door. “Oh no,” you say to yourself. You hope it’s not another interruption. When you pull it open you don’t at first see anyone, but there’s a squeak near your feet. A very small, very young Pargulus pygmy is down there, looking hopefully up at you, very cutely.
Her mindvoice in your head is very soft and gentle. You need to focus very intently to understand her, in fact. “Please pardon me, but I’m told you do wonderful potions for a small fee. I’m in need of a particular potion to perk up my plants for the Valentine’s Day celebration. Is it possible you would be willing to help me?” After asking her a couple questions, you decide you can help her. If—and it’s a really big ‘if’ considering the state of your closet, if you can find the bee’s breath that is a particularly important ingredient in the growth potion she needs.
Needed items
Bee's breath
Dust rag
Paper label
Pen
Bundle of bee balm
Bundle of labels
Cauldron
Crock
Crystal of earth mana
Success message
You’re both smiling when you hand the pargulus pygmy a pot of potion for her plants. She drops a sparkling shard of Light mana into your palm as payment and excitedly wings away.

Oh NO! Not Again![]

The next day dawns bright and windy—a perfect day to stay inside and finally get your closet straightened out. Happily you set about wiping shelves, putting new labels on some of the older jars whose labels have faded a bit, rearranging your herbs and generally making everything nice and tidy again. You have it almost finished when there’s an earthshaking roar outside—and everything falls off again, all over the place. You stand there, nearly crying, then grab your broom and rush outdoors. Whoever caused this is in for a scolding!
There is a large, very grumpy looking Brute dragon in your garden. You reconsider the scolding. Brutes don’t really take scoldings well. “You the potion lady?” he, well, yells in your mind. “I need a potion to keep the dad-burned folks away from my place during this dad-burned fancy celebration someone cooked up. You got something like that? I can pay.” He drops a large, rather pretty stone on the ground and glares at you.
Your first thought was to wish you’d thought of using an anti-social potion yourself, before he showed up. Maybe he’d have stayed away. “I believe I can help you, though it will take a bit to locate all the needed ingredients, since someone’s roaring knocked all my potion brewing ingredients off the shelves.” Ok, so maybe you are reconsidering your reconsideration regarding the scolding. “If you could just wait quietly here, I’ll get started.”
Needed items
Anti-social potion
Broom
Bundle of lavender
Bundle of thyme
Empty jar
Bundle of labels
Pen
Tincture of dark mana
Stinkwort pollen
Success message
You’ve never seen a brute dragon smile before. You rather hope you never do again, actually. But you’re glad you were able to give him what he sought, and the large bag of dragon scales he gives you as payment will be useful in making other potions.

Pilfering Pests[]

You get up bright and early with the goal of once again restoring your closet to a tidy state. While sipping your morning cup of strong tea and planning your day you consider the faint possibility that you need sturdier shelves in your closet. Maybe they should have doors on the front too, since you seem to get a lot of dragons for clients, and large dragons can create a lot of ground shaking. You have a carpenter friend who might be able to help you out. With a deciding nod, you hike to the other side of the village to consult your friend, who will happily help tomorrow. Oh well, in the meantime you can get started emptying out the closet so he can work there when he’s ready.
When you open the closet door to get started you see a flash of turquoise out of the corner of your eye. What was that? Frowning, you start to pick up bundles of drying herbs, and realize you can’t find the thyme. It should have been right there with the rest. And while you’re looking, shouldn’t there have been three bottles of tincture of magi mana? You begin to hunt in earnest, convinced that flash of turquoise was mischief makers making off with your stuff. Drat those Misfit pygmies!
Needed items
Misfit Pygmy (6)
Success message
Finally! You’ve gotten all the pesky pygmies out of your closet and your home. There are a few things still missing but most of it is there, even if still out of place.

A Friend Indeed[]

Your friend arrives early enough the next morning to share a steaming cup of tea with you before you head for the closet. Unfortunately, you didn’t get far the evening before in clearing out the closet. It’s still a mess. While drinking tea your friend shyly confesses that he has a problem that he hopes you can help with. His partner is down with a serious cold, and it looks as though he’ll have to miss the celebrations in the village. Your friend is quite sad over this, as it was to be the first year they’d attend together. “Perhaps,” he says, while sipping tea and smiling over the rim of the cup, “You might be able to brew up a potion for him while I work on the shelves? Once I measure the space I’ll be outside anyway, sawing the boards and out of your way.”
You really would like to help him, not only because he’s been such a good friend for years but because you hate to think of anyone having to miss the festivities just because of a silly cold. You spend a few minutes looking up your recipe for a potion to cure the common cold, then head to your closet, just in time for your friend to head out for his saws."
Needed items
Recipe
Teacup
Bundle of rosemary
Bundle of lavender
Tincture of earth mana
Flask of juice
Jar of honey
Bottle of solvent
Candle
Cauldron
Bundle of mint
Success message
Brewing potions under the current circumstances was a challenge, and you’re very happy to have risen to meet it. You hand your friend the health potion as he knocks off for the evening, and you both part with smiles on your faces.

Maybe Utter Chaos Isn't So Bad[]

Who knew living in a construction zone could be so stressful? Well, you can’t say you weren’t warned. The morning starts off well enough, with him noisily sawing boards outside, but descends into utter chaos when he moves inside to work. You scurry after your friend, moving things out of his way as he starts building the shelves in your closet, but you really don’t have anywhere to put them except back in the closet, or on any handy horizontal surface. The whole cottage starts looking rather cluttered very quickly. Maybe there won’t be any clients today, so you won’t have to try to brew potions in the midst of the disarray.
You no sooner have the thought than there’s a loud knock at the door that rattles the whole house. Or dear. The latch on the door is warm to the touch as you reach to open it. That is a bit concerning, as some varieties of dragons can be rather incendiary, but your fear is allayed when you spot the Luminox dragon on the other side. She tips her head to one side as she studies you, then her amused voice sounds in your mind. “Greetings, human. I seek a potion for my dearest friend. She suffers greatly from shyness yet desires to attend the celebration tomorrow. Are you perhaps available to brew something that would aid her?” Loud banging sounds from your closet, interrupting your reply. “Your cottage sounds as though it is overrun with rather large intruders. Perhaps I can help with that?” Her amusement is obvious, and only becomes more so when you explain that your friend is in the process of building sturdier shelves in your closet, since you’ve had some trouble with things falling off. You assure her you know just the thing for her friend, and open the closet door, where a puff of sawdust causes you to briefly succumb to a fit of sneezing.

Boldness potion
Bundle of lavender
Tincture of magi mana
Dust rag
Cauldron
Bundle of labels
Dragon scale
Crystal of fire mana
Scale
Pen
Flask
Tincture of light mana
Success message
It is with a considerable sense of accomplishment that you hand the luminox dragon the boldness potion. You managed to not set anything important on fire while working in such close quarters too, which adds a nice layer of pride to your success.

This is a Time to Celebrate[]

You awake that morning with a sense of dread. Your friend finished your new shelves the evening before, but too late for you to store all your supplies. Now instead of spending the day preparing for the evening’s Valentine’s Day celebration you’ll need to spend the time sorting and organizing in your closet. You simply can’t afford to leave things in a mess. You’ll have to make arrangements to replace the mysteriously missing supplies too.
With a sigh you stand up to start working, and a knock sounds at the door. A client? If you add time for brewing a potion to the work of organizing your shelves your whole day will be taken up. You really don’t want to miss the festivities.
Standing outside is a smiling Erador dragon. “Yes? How may I help you?” you ask him. The Erador lifts a softly feathered wing, revealing several contrite Misfit pygmies carrying an assortment of jars, flasks, and bundled herbs that look suspiciously familiar.
“My friends would like to return your property, and help you restore your storage area to its proper state, as an apology.” The Erador waves at the pygmies to follow you inside, and delighted, you set about sorting and organizing your closet. Now you’ll be sure to have time for preparations for the evening!
Needed items
Tincture of magi mana
Bundle of thyme
Flask
Crystal of earth mana
Broom
Dragon scale
Empty jar
Brown mushroom
Dust rag
Paper label
Tincture of dark mana
Bundle of lavender

With all the eager helpers your closet is back in shape in no time! You offer the pygmies and the erador dragon tea and biscuits, but they still have preparations of their own to see to before the party and leave, giving you time for a nice, hot bath before dressing for the evening. It’s good to see all your friends that night, and you celebrate so much you expect you won’t get much done the next day, but it’s all been worth it.
