Dorsal dragons were released on the 22nd of April 2009 alongside Balloon, Daydream, Pink, Striped, Sunrise, Sunset and Whiptail dragons. Dorsal dragons have two different colors, red and purple. The two colors differ only in appearance and rarity. If you breed a Dorsal dragon, the resulting Dorsal egg can turn out either red or purple. Purple Dorsals are extremely common, almost always on the abandoned page, whereas Red Dorsals are uncommon. Red Dorsals are not considered true alts, and Red Dorsal eggs are available from the cave. It is immediately apparent when looking at a Dorsal egg which color the adult will be.

Adult:

"Dorsal dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; They raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates."

Mature Hatchling:

"Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. It has brightly colored fins on its back. And look! It's grown its wings! It must be close to maturing."

Hatchling:

"Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. It has brightly colored fins on its back."
