Dark green, or "vine" dragons, are one of two dragons that possess an "alt" (alternate forms of the same species). Alts are rare and only obtainable through breeding (or, of course, trading). In the past, eggs for alts and regulars were slightly different, allowing the user to tell before hatching whether or not the dragon is an alt. However, this has been changed, and now users must wait for eggs to hatch to reveal this.

"Dark green dragons, once they mature, appear to become an entirely different species. However, this isn't true. Rather, they burrow underground and get nutrients from their vines. These vines are sometimes referred to as Dragon Grass. They are very violent, and will use these vines to capture, kill, and eat anything it sees that moves, as well as nearby plants. Luckily, its range is limited, and it can't use magic. Also, they tend to be easy to spot since they usually kill all plants around them and thus will be surrounded by a large clearing."
