Cavern Lurker Dragons, or Halloween 2012 Dragons, are the Halloween dragon released in 2012.

The 2012 Halloween drop was pushed back to 3rd of November because of Hurricane Sandy severely affecting the east coast of North America. As a reminder of the postponed Halloween drop (normally 31st of Oct), TJ09 gave his dragons the codes "Hurcn", "Sandy" and "Delay", which spell out: "Hurricane Sandy Delay".

Under the old Breed sort, these dragons sorted as "Halloween 2012 Dragon" on a user's scroll. As of August 14, 2016, they now sort using their Encyclopedia name.

Adult

"Cavern Lurker dragons are nocturnal ambush predators. Although small, they are very aggressive and will attack anything weak enough to be overpowered. Their preferred method of hunting is to lie in wait in a cave, burrow, or other small, enclosed space; when any potential prey passes they will lunge out to grab hold of the unsuspecting victim and drag it back into the lair. Cavern Lurkers have an odd aversion to sunlight and almost never venture out during the day. More commonly sighted are the odd piles of bones they stack near the entrance to their dens. Their mating call is a low-pitched bumping noise."

Appearance/Basic Anatomy

• Long limbs and digits with a short body.
• Sharp teeth replaced continuously. Have incisors, canines, molars, and premolars.
• Keeled scales ending in a sharp point.
• Eye color ranges from yellow to red.
• Females are slightly larger than males.

Hatchling Behavior

• Tend to be nervous and flighty when young, but become bolder as they grow larger.
• Bone stacking begins at a young age, though the piles become tighter and neater as the hatchling ages; those of neonates are often haphazard and messy.
• Love to “play” with their owners; unfortunately they have a mouth full of needle-like teeth.
• Become totally solitary as they near maturity.
• As they reach sexual maturity often go through a phase of heightened aggression and territoriality.

Adult Behavior

• Solitary and territorial. Often bluff at larger dragons to frighten them away.
• Create stacks of bones outside of their lairs, often forming patterns and shapes. The purpose of this behavior is totally unknown.
• Very aggressive and cantankerous, especially if disturbed during the day.
• Avoid going out into sunlight; do not seem disturbed by light from fire or stars, or magically created light.
• Courtship and breeding is a short and nasty affair; females will often maul males before and/or after mating.
• No parental care of eggs or hatchlings is shown.

Habitat

• Very adaptable, found in nearly all habitats with sufficient prey and denning sites.

Diet

• Obligate carnivores; will eat some plant material to aid digestion.
• Eat mostly mammals such as deer, pigs, horses, and cattle.
• Don’t seek out livestock for food; only eat wayward animals unlucky enough to wander by.

They're based off the idea of the boogeyman, things that go bump in the night, monsters in your closet, etc. Adults get to be about the size of a small horse, so unfortunately they're a bit too big to fit under your bed. They're usually foul-tempered and often have bad breath.
