I don't ''strongly'' oppose a move, but can we have "Which...?" as a redirect for users who are used to it?

Revision as of 17:03, 14 June 2020

Please use this talk page is for discussing articles nominated for renaming.

Which Egg is Which? -> Egg guide

Please don't rename. I really like it how it is. And it's not like the name isn't intuitive, or the article isn't linked on the wiki.

Maybe, just maybe make it so that when someone searches for "egg guide", they'll get linked to "which egg is which".

Thanks for your input! :)
I don't think that "Which egg is which?" is a more intuitive title for someone new to the game or this wiki to search for. I know many frequent users are used to it, and may like it, but the title doesn't align with good practices in a couple ways.
I've been talking with some other Fandom folks about best practices, and it was recommended that the guide should exist as a child of "Egg", since its purpose is to help identify eggs in the game. Besides that, it's a general practice that question marks should not be used in article titles unless it's absolutely necessary, like an article for the show Whose Line Is It Anyway?. "Which egg is which?" doesn't need to have a question mark in it, so best practice is that it should not.
I'm also concerned by how often I see new users having to be directed to the "Which egg is which?" page on the forums and discords, which makes me think that the name, though one we're accustomed to, isn't helpful for new users trying to find this information.

The title "Which Egg is Which?" is cute and relatively comprehensive. It practically tells you what the guide is about, and when I first started using the Wiki towards the middle of last year via Googling "DragCave egg guide" this was what popped up, and left no question about what the article would be about. 88.242.137.108 06:05, May 30, 2020 (UTC) Kleng

If your instinct is to search for an "egg guide" it seems like it would make more sense that the article should be named something like "egg guide". People don't generally search for the question they have, they search for where they think the answer's likely to be. Likewise, articles are usually named for their function, not the question they answer.
While the current title is cute, I don't think cuteness is sufficient to keep us from improving the wiki's naming and organizational practices.

I find "Which Egg Is Which?" more descriptive than "Egg guide". It's clearer from "Which...?" that the page is for telling eggs apart. "Egg guide" suggests breeding, catching, and hatching eggs.

There's more input on TLQ on the forum
