Christmas Dragons (canonically Holiday Dragons) are limited edition dragons that can only be bred or found in the cave during a brief window surrounding December 25 every year. During this limited window, Holiday dragons may produce multiple eggs, causing the Abandoned Page to have many previous-release holiday eggs in it.

For details on specific Holiday dragon breeds, see the articles in this category.

Holiday Dragon MechanicsEdit

Holiday dragons are limited to 2 cave-born eggs per scroll. There is no cap for bred holiday dragons. Users can check their status via the Breed Limits help page.

For many years TJ09 held a policy that no limited-edition dragons would be re-released from the cave. The only way to obtain a previous year's Holiday dragon was by catching bred eggs from the Abandoned Page. However, in 2017, a Holiday biome was introduced, allowing users to catch cave-borns of previous Holiday breeds for the first time.

Holiday dragons only produce eggs of their own breed during a one-week window before the Christmas holiday. Outside of the Holiday window, Holidays will always produce eggs of their non-holiday mate's breed. Due to this limited breeding mechanic, Holiday dragons will often produce a multi-clutch of 2-4 eggs at this time. Holiday dragons are also given precedence in the Abandoned Page during this time, and will appear ahead of any non-Holiday dragons in the queue.

Traditionally, Holiday dragons have always been single-gender breeds, with the gender alternating every two years (eg, 2007 and 2008 releases were male, 2009 and 2010 were female). However, while cave-born Holly Dragons are male and cave-born Mistletoe Dragons are female, bred eggs of these breeds may be either gender.

Official Christmas Dragon DescriptionsEdit

The adult description was noticed as changed on April 6, 2015. The original description is below. The change was to stay consistent with the fact that Christmas was never specifically mentioned elsewhere on site - Christmas time has always been referred to as just "Holiday" on the site and forum.

"Christmas dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the 'Spirits of Christmas.'"
