Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It rarely speaks, but loves learning new words.
And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.
Adult[]
Astrael Dragons are widely known as a spectacularly colorful breed. They take great pride in their brilliant petal-like wings and glossy scales, with the most vibrant and meticulously cleaned dragons being the first to be noticed by potential mates. However, the most attractive trait an Astrael can have has nothing to do with appearances. Astrael are impressive wordsmiths, often traveling great distances so as to expand upon their vocabulary and perfect their cadence. Their passion for wordplay shines through in their communication tactics, with Astrael preferring to speak in eloquent rhymes; the most creative among them are fated to win poetry battles - and their future mates. During their travels, bardic Astrael are more than happy to share their poetic prowess with those who ask, providing opportunities for distanced friends and family members to spread joy through beautifully articulated letters. Astrael Dragons are also wonderful parents; they have even been observed taking in orphaned eggs and young. An Astrael’s pheromones are known to influence the growth of things around them, though the scent is unique to each individual.

Variant determination[]
Astrael Dragons are available in nine colored variants: lime, brown, tan, green, teal, pink, blue, black, and white. The first three variants can be caught from the cave, with lime appearing in the Desert and Volcano regions, brown appearing in the Forest and Jungle regions, and tan appearing in the Alpine and Coast regions. The green, teal, and pink variants can be obtained by crossbreeding different combinations of the lime, brown, and tan variants, while the blue, black, and white variants are produced by crossbreeding the green, teal, and pink variants.
Additionally, adult Astrael Dragons can change the color of an Astrael egg to match their own variant by using the Pollinate BSA.
Encyclopedia entry[]
Appearance/Basic Anatomy
- No two Astraels have the exact same coloration; their colors and patterns are influenced by their familial unit as eggs, but no longer change upon hatching.
- Color variations affect various body parts: body, primaries, secondaries, and their body plating.
- Despite their wide range of colorations, they can be most easily identified by their body colors, which fit into common categories: lime, brown, tan, green, teal, pink, blue, black, and white.
- An Astrael’s physical and mental health can be best gauged by the luster of their scales.
Hatchling Behavior
- Even the youngest Astraels are shockingly clean and well-organized.
- Will stop what they are doing to preen if they feel dirty, regardless of the activity.
- Part of their growing up is learning to balance their need for cleanliness and exploration of the world.
- Express intent and interest in forms of communication far sooner than other dragon breeds.
Adult Behavior
- Spend an inordinate amount of time keeping their feathers and especially their scales and body plates clean.
- Completely aloof to the confusion and stress their rhyming can inflict upon others that are unfamiliar.
- Speech tends to speed up with excitement.
- Courting rituals involve word play of some kind; the most compatible pairs produce beautiful melodies or personal poems.
- Teaching young hatchlings proper grooming techniques is a major form of bonding in family groups.
- Very involved and incredibly doting as parents or parental figures.
Habitat
- Prefer locations with wide open range, but also with access to foliage for defensive camouflage.
- Can be seen in a wide variety of locations, with those locations often influencing the coloration of the family groups that live there.
- Known to travel—often alone or in pairs—before settling.
Diet
- Prefer meat or fish, flavor-wise.
- Often eat vegetation or otherwise easy-to-eat meals so as to avoid getting too messy.
- Parents will go out of their way to get favorite foods for offspring, regardless of the hygienic havoc it may cause.
Trivia[]
- While working on the Astrael Dragons, spatio would "annoy" Schenanigans with working names for the nine variants: the OG (lime), Forest Fae (brown), Age of Aquarius (tan), Vintage Chic (green), Barbie Mermaid Princess (teal), Boho Headdress (pink), Archangel (blue), Vampire Nightclub (black), and Greek Goddess (white).[1]
