Official descriptions[]
Egg[]
A low hum emanates from this rough egg.
Hatchling[]
Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It flops about awkwardly in the sand as if it were trying to swim, but hates to get wet.
Mature hatchling[]
Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It flops about awkwardly in the sand as if it were trying to swim, but hates to get wet.
And look! It has grown larger and developed vibrant colors! It must be close to maturing.
Adult[]
Travelers of the deserts of Valkemare have long learned to traverse the wastelands with care, as a perceptive Arrakyma Dragon can pick up the slightest movement from miles away. These wyrm-like dragons are capable of sensing potential prey or threats through vibrations in the sandy dunes they call home. They constantly emit a low, resonating rumble which, when combined with their Earth magic, allows them to manipulate the sand around them. This gives the Arrakyma Dragon the ability to move through sand as if it were water, often up to frightening speeds. Their deep, ominous rumbling - the only warning of impending danger - is often mistaken for an earthquake by those less familiar with these infamous desert inhabitants. However, some shamanistic cultures have become attuned to the rhythm of these leviathans, taking advantage of their sensitivity to movement and predictable aggression to summon these creatures for rituals and worship.

- The Arrakymas were such a fun project, and I'm super appreciative that @spatio roped me into doing them ^.^
While they are a more direct reference to Dune's sandworms, they do take some artistic liberties and design choices from other famous Sci-Fi worms, such as Tremors. But spatio is the mastermind behind most of their design elements so I'll leave her to speak about her artistic magic... :3
The Arrakyma name is indeed a play off the planet Arrakis, but we combined it with Greek "Kyma" for cymatics. I originally was playing with other Arabic languages for their name, as that is where "Shai-Hulud" comes from, but once we stumbled upon this idea and combination it just felt perfect.
We also could not decide on a singular color palette, so opted for a bit of a dramatic dimorphic difference in coloration. Collectively, the colors are inspired by a lot of the old concept art for Dune's sandworms, mainly the vibrant pops of color amidst a more drab, sandy backdrop.
While the theme and inspo is definitely the classic, it was our mutual love of the new Dune movie that brought these beasties to life 😂
