The site hasn't done that for over a decade (at least? I'm not sure when the original replacements were done). Way back when it did, that was the only resource TJ had access to: sprites from other games. It's not all that surprising or hate-worthy.
Looks like you got yourself a Black Truffle Dragon, if your sketch is anything to go by.
EDIT: actually probably not, I made an assumption based on memory and forgot Black Truffles don't look like that. I'm not sure what you've snagged there.
Only the spriters have alts, unfortunately. However, it's pretty common for spriters to breed their alts and give out the offspring so people can have the alts in their lineages, so do some research if that sounds appealing to you.

With the introduction of the Market, I think we might have a chance to really get a good look at the "official" rarities of each breed based on the prices in the Market. How often do the prices fluctuate, by the way? I'm thinking someone (or me) could track the price of each egg at the same time of day for a set period of time and use that to get an average price for each egg, which could ultimately establish a baseline for the wiki to classify rarity. That said, I'm not on the DragCave forums at all so if this is already happening somewhere and I'm late to the party, uh, hi. It'd be nice to finally get some clarity, though.
S1 is short for "Stage 1", referring to a hatchling that has just hatched from its egg but hasn't grown wings or otherwise reached maturity yet.
Reminds me of the first time I ever visited the AP and it was nothing but Royal Blue eggs. Literally. Given the question-mark-like pattern on them, I thought that all abandoned eggs looked like that for a while.
I'm not really one to go crazy over new dragon designs, or ooh and ahh at the artwork, and I'm usually more interested in the character and behavior put into the dragon, but LOOK AT THIS THING

Check out this forum post, which is referenced in the Help section of the cave. It contains a list of hatching sites that you can submit your dragons to. I have three that I use regularly, and usually my eggs hatch/hatchlings grow up as soon as their first three days are up.
